Peter Zakkak (1966 - 2019)

I am very sad to announce the passing of Peter Zakkak.  Known to everyone as Zak, he was the past President of York Baseball and a current member of the Executive as the Vice President of Keelesdale Park.

He was a long time coach of the York Midget Blue Jays, and the prime groomer and caregiver of Keelesdale Park.

We thank him for all of the work he selflessly did on behalf of the sport of baseball.

His mentorship to many young athletes cannot be diminished and his dedication to the fields is unsurpassed.

We will all miss him, and there is a large hole in the heart of many who crossed his path.  He was always appreciative of the help given and shared his passion with others.

From the York Blue Jays

Sadly, we lost a great man that helped a lot of children learn to play the game of baseball.  On February 18, 2019, Peter Zakkak, or as most people knew him as Coach Zak, passed away suddenly.  It has affected a lot of people that knew him well, especially his close friends and family.  He was the Head Coach for the York Blue Jays AA Midget team and West Toronto AAA Minor Midget team.  He was the heart of Keelesdale Park North, the home field for both teams.  He always made sure the park was in excellent condition for any game taking place if it was a high school game or a rep game.  He was a teacher of the game to both players and coaches.  He was a man with thick skin but once you knew him he would help you in any way possible.  He was a great coach and an amazing friend.  Coach Zak is the reason York Midget program kept on going for so many years, and he will watch from up above in the fields of dreams.
